Homage to Bladen

1971 Arnhem, Netherlands
Coauthors: Jeffrey Shaw, Theo Botschuijver, Sean Wellesley-Miller

Production: Eventstructure Research Group, Amsterdam

The Wedge was a monumental black wooden sculpture created by the American artist Ronald Bladen for the international exhibition Sonsbeek buiten de perken. Besides its formal qualities, its giant slope looked like a climbing attraction. (Climbing was not permitted, of course.)

Also presented at this exhibition, Homage to Bladen was an air-inflated structure that was an exact-sized replica of Bladen’s sculpture: a soft object the public could freely push around, climb on and play with.
